1- To help create setting, Ayn Rand uses color imagery. Find two examples in the chapter. What colors does the author use? What image is she trying to convey?
2- The first page of Anthem begins, “It is a sin to write this.” Using textual evidence, explain why Equality is committing a sin when he writes.
3- Why does Equality refer to himself as “we”?
4- Would you want to be friends with someone like Equality? Why or why not?
5- Ayn Rand wanted Equality 7-2521 to stand out from his brothers. Explain how she accomplished this by contrasting Equality 7-2521’s physical attributes to those of his fellow men.
1. In the text the author says it is so dark that they can't even see a thing. She also talked about how the walls are cracked and water runs upon them in thin threads without sound, black and glistening as blood. I think what the author means is that it's so dark in the room that the water looks as dark as glistening blood.
ReplyDelete2. There is a reason he called writing a sin, a few reasons actually. One reason is because he broke into places and stole things like candles so he can so what he was writing. Another is the Council memebers didn't give him person to write, which in my personal opinion that's stupid!
ReplyDelete4. I would want to be friends with someone like Equality 7-2125. Just for the simple fact that I believe that all people should be free and shoudn't have their lives controlled. They should be abe to do things or ask questions without getting into trouble with the law for it, but if I was him I would've probably done the same things he did so I could learn more than they teach you at "the Home of the Students"!
I agree with you to an extent. Yes it would be nice to have a friend that stands for what he believes in not matter what, but in a world like this I don't know if that's a good thing nessisarily. Why be friends with someone who may get you in legal trouble? I know if my friend was getting me in trouble legally I would not be very happy, so I do agree with you just too an extent.
DeleteI also agree with you Shasta. I don't like having friends who are fake. I'd rather have one real friend than 1,000 fake ones. But, like Nick said it could be a bad thing to be friends with someone like Equality 7-2125 because it could get you in trouble legally.
DeleteI agree Shasta, people should be who they want to be and not have there lives controlled by anyone else.
Delete3. Equality refers to himself as "we" because the word "I" has been taken out of the language. All men are equal in this world, so if you are talking about yourself by saying "I" then it gives you personality which makes you different. Being different is illegal so he uses the word we to describe himself.
ReplyDeleteIn my personal opinion, we should be able to be different and ourselves. in the book I know that's a different story but that's just my opinion.
DeleteMy opinion, we are known as individuals, not together. You have to work as a team in most things, but being different and our own person, controlling ourselves should be aloud instead of letting others control us too.
DeleteAgain, I agree with Shasta we should all be differnet. The world would be SO boring if we lived like them. Everybody needs their own personality or being a human being is just pointless.
Delete3. He refers to himself as "we" instead of "I" because the word "I" has completely been removed from the language.
ReplyDelete4. I would personally like to be friends with him because I already have a lot of friends that are like him. Most of my friends are extremely intelligent but do no work to their full potential; just because everybody else is not as smart as them.
Well most people now days dont worry about any of the important things, they dont go to their full potential, they just get by with what they've got. Trying to make life easier, but it actually makes it harder.
Delete3- He was taught to put others first basically. He doesnt refer to himself as "I", Its "we". They put "i" out of the language completely. So he follows what his people do.
ReplyDelete2- It says in the beginning that "it is a sin to write this" because he stole things and now poeple that would read his book would know about it.
2. He says "It is a sin to write this," because he has stolen things and if they were to read this he would get in trouble with the council.
ReplyDelete3. He refers to himself as "we" because "I" was completely taken out of the language.
Haylie this is really good i agree with everything you said this is very true.
Delete2. He admits to comiting sin telling how he has broken more than one law. He's feels bad about it but not bad enough where it would stop him from doing what he loves.
ReplyDelete3.He refers to himself as "We" because he has never known the word I or anywords pertaining to just an individual because thier law forbids anyone to be individual to them they are all one.
